“One of the great creative breakthroughs we had was that we, talking to Neil Burger the director, really looked at Kanye’s Yeezus record and ‘Black Skinhead’ in particular and said, ‘You know what, musically this sounds like the world of Dauntless,’ ” music supervisor Randall Poster told MTV News recently referring to brash parties in the “Divergent” universe. And thus the musical guide for the soundtrack was born.
Featuring Ellie Goulding (who has multiple cuts on the disc), A$AP Rocky, Zedd, M83, Skrillex, Tame Impala and many more, the 13-disc soundtrack comes out March 11th via Interscope Records (you can already hear half the soundtrack here). If you want to know what the rest of the entire soundtrack sounds like, Pitchfork has the whole thing streaming here.
“Obviously, the lyrical topicality was not going to work for us and so doing some exploration we sort of landed on this [French DJ] producer Gesaffelstein who worked with Kanye [West],” he said. Gesaffelstein’s contribution with A$AP Rocky can be heard below as well as Tame Impala’s “Backwards,” which features Kendrick Lamar.
Meanwhile, a new clip, featurette and a couple of TV spots from the Y.A. adaptation—which is looking like it’s going to be one of the few post-“Twilight” and “Hunger Games” YA flicks that’s not going to be a flop—are below. Starring Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet and Theo James, “Divergent” is due in theaters on March 21st.
