Watch: Vampires, Zombies & Teenagers Get Monster Mashed-Up In The Red Band Trailer For ‘Freaks Of Nature’

Freaks Of NatureEvery year, there’s at least one major film on the release schedule that has the most random cast and a topic so WTF that the audience begins to wonder: who the hell decided this should be a movie and who is this movie for? Some of those movies can turn out to be surprising hits or pleasures (“Pitch Perfect,” “Hot Tub Time Machine,” “Project X”) and some not so much (“Hot Tub Time Machine 2,” Project Almanac,” etc.). That not-so-glowing distinction in 2015 goes to “Freaks Of Nature” — formerly known as "The Kitchen Sink" — a kind of modern “Monster Squad” with a lets-pick-these-guys-out-of-a-hat cast. Here’s the official synopsis:

In Freaks of Nature, we welcome you to Dillford, where three days ago, everything was peaceful and business as usual: the vampires were at the top of the social order, the zombies were at the bottom, and the humans were getting along in the middle.  But this delicate balance was ripped apart when the alien apocalypse arrived in Dillford and put an end to all the harmony. Now it’s humans vs. vampires vs. zombies in all-out, blood-sucking, brain-eating, vamp-staking mortal combat – and all of them are on the run from the aliens.  It is up to three teenagers – one human, one vampire, and one zombie – to team up, figure out how to get rid of the interplanetary visitors, and try to restore order to this "normal" little town.

Directed by Robbie Pickering (the indie "Natural Selection"), “Freaks Of Nature” stars Mackenzie Davis, Ed Westwick, Vanessa Hudgens, Keegan-Michael Key, Joan Cusack,, Bob Odenkirk, Denis Leary, and Cerina Vincent. Interestingly enough, the script made the Black List in 2011 and was set to be Jonah Hill’s directorial debut about four years ago. But the actor scored an Oscar nomination for “Moneyball,” his whole career path changed dramatically, and he left the project. Frankly, it looks like he dodged a major bullet. “Freaks Of Nature” opens in two weeks, on Octrober 30th. Watch below.
