Yorgos Lanthimos Teaming With Fox Searchlight To Direct The TV Series 'The Man In The Rockefeller Suit'

As far as current filmmakers go, you would be hard-pressed to find a director with a current streak of incredible films like Yorgos Lanthimos. Over the last four years, the filmmaker has turned in three truly special films, “The Lobster,” “The Killing of the Sacred Deer,” and last year’s Oscar-winning film “The Favourite.” Needless to say, when a new project from Lanthimos gets announced, we listen.

According to Deadline, Lanthimos has just signed with Fox Searchlight to direct and produce a TV series based on the best-selling book “The Man In The Rockefeller Suit: The Astonishing Rise and Spectacular Fall of a Serial Impostor” by author Mark Seal. The book chronicles the incredible true story of Clark Rockefeller, a lost descendant of the famous Rockefeller family that used his name and family legend to land successful jobs and a wife. However, when it’s revealed that he may not be exactly who he says he is, everything begins to fall apart.

The project was initially thought of as a film by Fox Searchlight. The original script for the feature was written by David Bar Katz, with Benedict Cumberbatch rumored to be attached to star and Pablo Trapero along as director. “The Man in the Rockefeller Suit” marks the first foray into TV for Lanthimos, who has mostly stayed in film, with brief diversions into music videos and shorts. Fox Searchlight and Lanthimos previously worked together on last year’s “The Favourite,” which ended up nominated for 10 Oscars and winning for Olivia Colman as Best Actress.

We’re not quite sure how “The Man in the Rockefeller” suit fits in Lanthimos’ schedule. In addition to this TV series, he was previously attached to direct a film based on Jim Thompson‘sPop. 1280.” But it’s unclear if the TV series or the film will reach production first.
