Amy Adams Returning For ‘Enchanted’ Sequel ‘Disenchanted’

With five Oscar nominations and no wins, it would be easy for Amy Adams to focus solely on nabbing one of those coveted awards. But in the decade that has passed since she first broke out in “Junebug,” the actress has shown an adventurous spirit. This year alone shows the breadth of what she’s willing to do, appearing in Zack Snyder‘s knuckle-dragging “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice,” and the double whammy of this fall’s awards season efforts, Denis Villeneuve‘s heady sci-fi “Arrival” and Tom Ford‘s slick and pulpy “Nocturnal Animals.” And now, Adams appears ready to return to a role that permanently endeared her to the hearts of many.

THR reveals that Disney is gearing up “Disenchanted,” a sequel to 2007’s live-action animated fairy tale musical “Enchanted,” with Adams expected to reprise her role as Giselle. Adam Shankman (“Hairspray,” “Rock Of Ages“) will be helming the followup, which will take place ten years after the original and finds Giselle questioning her happy-ever-after life in the kingdom of Andalasia.

The plan is to get cameras rolling by next summer, and given that Disney doesn’t rush out product, I wouldn’t expect a release date until 2019. Either way, this news will likely make fans the original particularly excited. Let us know your thoughts below.
