There’s been more than a few years of much talk and little action when it comes to “Bad Santa 2,” but as it goes sometimes, the timing never seemed right, and the project repeatedly stalled out. But last year, everything seemed to finally sync up and well over a decade since the original hit theaters, the sequel went into production. Will it recapture the nasty, very wrong, but totally hilarious tone of the original? We’ll just have to wait and see but some key ingredients have changed.
Screenwriters Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, and director Terry Zwigoff are out, and stepping in is helmer Mark Waters (“Mean Girls,” “Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past“) and scribes Doug Ellin (“Entourage“), Shauna Cross (“Whip It“), John Phillips (“Dirty Grandpa“) and Johnny Rosenthal. That’s a lot of cooks in the kitchen, but wearing the santa suit once again will be Billy Bob Thornton and he’s confident the movie won’t disappoint.
“Some of the nasty stuff is even nastier, but this one has more heart — even compared to the heart of the first one, which did have a beating heart. It went to both extremes a little more. We have a couple scenes that you could put in ‘On the Waterfront,’ ” he told Metro.
