Charlize Theron Kicks Butt In Extended Clip From 'Atomic Blonde'

Charlize Theron looks to be fully in the badass phase of her career, and following ass-kicking turns in “Mad Max: Fury Road” and “The Fate Of The Furious,” she will next be seen in David Leitch’s “Atomic Blonde.” Theron stars as an assassin tasked with recovering a lost dossier. Here’s the official synopsis:

“Agent Lorraine Broughton (Charlize Theron) is equal parts spycraft, sensuality and savagery, willing to deploy any of her skills to stay alive on an impossible mission. Sent alone into Berlin to retrieve a priceless dossier from within the destabilized city, she partners with embedded station chief David Percival (James McAvoy) to navigate her way through a deadly game of spies.”

If the name David Leitch doesn’t ring a bell, he is a longtime stunt coordinator who was an uncredited co-director on “John Wick” and is currently in pre-production on “Deadpool 2.” While the film received mixed reviews when it premiered two months ago at the SXSW festival (with our own Erik Childress giving it a C+), it does look to have enough action to entertain until “John Wick 3” inevitably comes out.

In addition to the much-talked-about action scenes, Theron talked to EW about about a love affair her character has with Sofia Boutella’s Sandrine. Theron noted, “It’s unexpected. It’s refreshing. Everybody says you can’t do that — which is such bullsh- … Why is it that James Bond can sleep with every girl in every movie and nobody says, ‘Wow, he’s not in love with them?’”

Besides Theron, Boutella, and McAvoy, “Atomic Blonde” co-stars John Goodman and Toby Jones. Based on the graphic novel series, it was adapted for the screen by Kurt Johnstad, whose other credits include “300” and “Act Of Valor.” “Atomic Blonde” will open nationwide on July 28th. Until then, check out the badass extended clip from the film.
