Chris Hemsworth Will Return For 'Star Trek 4,' J.J. Abrams Teases Sequel

This afternoon, the embargo broke on reviews for “Star Trek Beyond,” and advance word is actually pretty good, with the movie scoring quite well on Rotten Tomatoes. But it’s still pretty early, with critical assessments to come next week, and that number will likely get massaged a bit. But as it goes, people are already looking beyond ‘Beyond,’ and the inevitable sequel question has come up, and yes, “Star Trek 4” is on the table.

“Yes, and there’s something that hopefully we’re figurative minutes away from talking about. But the answer is 100 percent yes, and it’s incredibly exciting,” franchise producer J.J. Abrams said during a press conference today (via Den Of Geek). But there’s a bit more than that.

Abrams revealed to reporter Scott Mantz that not only was there a script finished, but that Chris Hemsworth would reprise his role from “Star Trek” and “Star Trek Into Darkness” as Chris Pine‘s father in the film. I’m not sure how that works since Dad Kirk is dead, but maybe they’ll play with time travel? That’s certainly a high wire to walk, so we’ll see how that works out.

But all of this likely depends on the box office for “Star Trek Beyond,” which opens on July 22nd. But what do you think? Do you want George Kirk back in the Kelvin timeline and story?
