Coen Brothers Western TV Series Starts Shooting Next Month

You might have forgotten, but at the beginning of the year, right in the thick of awards season talk and with Sundance on the horizon, it was revealed that the Coen Brothers were making the move to TV, writing and directing “The Ballad Of Buster Scruggs,” with Annapurna‘s TV shingle shepherding the project. Nothing has been heard about it since, but it looks like we’re about to find out a lot more.

An eagle-eyed reader alerted us to casting notices  for the series, which not only reveals that shooting will begin next month in Albuquerque, New Mexico but also provide a brief logline for what this show will be all about:

The stories of six individuals weave together in the old West at the end of the Civil War.

Additionally, ‘Scruggs’ is described as a drama/comedy which sounds about right for the Coens, and we’re pretty excited to see the pair return to the western genre, after showing such a great hand with it in “True Grit.”

No word yet on who the lead actors will be, but if filming begins soon, I’d imagine we’re going to hear a lot about this one soon. There’s also no mention of where the series might land, but there’s no doubt every streaming service and network in town is going to throw their hat in the ring for this one.
