Director Gavin O'Connor Teases 'Warrior' Sequel

When “Warrior” was released in 2011, stars Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton were still under the radar, and the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) wasn’t the powerhouse that it has become today. While the film received pretty favorable reviews, it never resonated with audiences at the box office. However, in recent years, the film has built quite the cult following, particularly from MMA fans, for its strong acting and accurate portrayal of the sport.

Now, director Gavin O’Connor is hinting that we might see more of the story. In an interview with Screen Rant, O’Connor reveals the idea of a followup has been tossed around, saying, “Well, we’ve had some talks about that. Me and the actors.”

“…that movie, more than any movie I’ve ever made, I have a weird… there’s an amazing following of rabid fans, more than anything I’ve ever done. And I’d say that’s probably my most personal movie. So I’m really grateful and, y’know, maybe we’ll do another one!” the director also said.

Obviously, this is far from a confirmation that he’s in negotiations or that there’s even any interest in pursuing it. However, if Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton are interested in working on a sequel, there will be definite interest from studios. It’s still entirely too early to say, but yesterday there was no talk of a sequel and now there is, so for fans of “Warrior,” there’s hope.
