First Look: Cillian Murphy, Brie Larson & Armie Hammer In Ben Wheatley's 'Free Fire'

One movie many hoped would hit the Cannes Film Festival was Ben Wheatley‘s “Free Fire,” which in addition to boasting an ensemble cast including Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley, Brie Larson, Armie Hammer, Sam Riley, and Enzo Cilenti, has an executive producer credit belonging to Martin Scorsese. Well, everyone will have to keep waiting a bit longer, but the badass first look at the movie has arrived.

The action flick carries a pretty simple premise, following a woman who has brokered a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two Irishmen and a gang who are selling them a stash of guns. But when shots are fired in the handover, a heart-stopping game of survival ensues.

” ‘Free Fire is kind of a shootout in real time,” former Film4 chief David Kosse told me earlier this year. “It takes place in 1970s Boston and it is a deal for guns that’s gone wrong and Ben clearly brings his highly visionary filmmaking style to a very contained and straightforward narrative. I’ve seen [the] film, [it’s] utterly brilliant and entertaining, and hopefully we’ll be sharing that with audiences again at festivals this year.”

We’ll be keeping an eager eye out for “Free Fire” later this year.
