Jack O’Connell To Lead '45 Years' Director Andrew Haigh's Alexander McQueen Biopic

Andrew Haigh is certainly not wasting a moment between movies. After last year’s lovely “45 Years,” the director moved right into shooting the wrap up movie for the HBO series “Looking,” and is now in post-production on his next effort, “Lean On Pete.” And continuing to strike while the iron is hot, the filmmaker already has his next movie ready to go.

After signing up to helm a biopic about late fashion designer Alexander McQueen earlier this year, Haigh has found his leading man in Jack O’Connell (“Starred Up,” “Unbroken,” “Money Monster“). Playwright Chris Urch is writing the script, based on the biography “Blood Beneath The Skin,” that tells the story of McQueen’s astonishing rise in the fashion world, his drug addiction, struggles to find love and finally, his tragic suicide at the age of 40.

After breaking out in “Starred Up,” O’Connell lined up plenty of gigs, but none that showed off his talents quite like David Mackenzie‘s film. But this is undoubtedly a showcase part with a director who has a near flawless track record, so we’re pretty excited to see what they create together. Filming on the biopic will begin next spring.
