Jennifer Lawrence & Chris Pratt Fall In Love In Space In First Trailer For 'Passengers'

Passengers,” penned by Jon Spaihts before he tackled “Prometheus,” was, for a long time, one of those mythic scripts that bounced around Hollywood. At one point Keanu Reeves and Reese Witherspoon were attached to the lead roles of the sci-fi movie about a passenger on a spaceship making a centuries-long journey to another planet who is woken up accidentally, and irreversibly, by a computer glitch. Faced with the prospect of living the rest of his life, and dying, alone on the ship, he decides to wake up a beautiful fellow colleague. That iteration never happened, but it’s nonetheless a terrific premise, one that is finally being realized with Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt in the lead roles, and for director Morten Tyldum (“The Imitation Game“), the script hasn’t lost an ounce of its power.

“Yes, it was a popular script. It’s one of those stories that really grabs you and you fall in love with it. It’s very smart and funny and clever and such a page turner I couldn’t put it down. Every 10 pages, something new happens!” he told EW. “At the same time it’s a very intimate movie while taking place on this epic scale. For me, it’s a story about what’s important to live a full life. What are the things we need as humans? It’s not afraid to entertain but at the same time it asks big questions about what does it mean to really feel happy. Every generation has its love story. I feel like this is it. I had to do it.”

And after a long wait, the film is coming and the trailer is now here. “Passengers” opens on December 21st.
