Earlier this year, we got a vague idea of 20th Century Fox‘s future superhero plans, as the trades revealed that the studio was moving ahead with “Deadpool 3” and some form of “X-Men” reboot. In recent weeks, word has starting to fly around that next spring, production will start on Josh Boone‘s “X-Men: The New Mutants,” but what about the core group of the recent X-Men trilogy? There have been suggestions that the studio wants to try and hang onto the big stars, including Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, but in addition to the big payday they’d likely have to put out for new contracts, and it seems the actors aren’t interested and/or don’t even know what’s going on.
Speaking with Empire (via Comic Book), Fassbender fell into the latter camp. “I don’t know to be honest,” he said about playing Magneto again. “I haven’t made any sort of decision on it because I have no idea what’s happening next with the franchise to be honest.”

With “Assassin’s Creed” tanking hard over Christmas weekend, maybe it would be best for both the actor and studio to take a break from each other….
As for Lawrence, she doesn’t seem all that eager to play Mystique again… unless it’s in something but an X-Men movie.
“I would love to,” Lawrence told MTV about making an appearance a “Guardians Of The Galaxy” movie. “I would choose that over doing another ‘X-Men’ movie maybe.”
“I won’t be Mystique in the ‘X-Men’ movies, but I would love to be Mystique in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ I wonder if I could do that,” she joked.
I wouldn’t exactly hold my breath for more X-Men movies with Fassbender, Lawrence and co., especially with ‘The New Mutants’ offering Fox an avenue to continue the franchise in a new direction.
