Michael Mann's 'Heat' Is Returning To Theaters For One Night Only

If you’ve never seen Michael Mann‘s “Heat” on the big screen, you’re missing out; the film’s signature gunfights and neon-soaked Los Angeles were always meant to tower over audiences. There’s still time to fix that, though: 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and the Alamo Drafthouse have partnered on a one-night-only screening of Mann’s crime classic on Tuesday, May 2, including a special Q&A with Mann that will be broadcast from the Regency Village Theater in Los Angeles, California.

While the event will be simulcast across the Drafthouse’s network of theaters, a few non-Alamo art house theaters have also been invited to the party, giving hope to people in non-Alamo markets that they might also be able to attend. And just for good measure, these locations will also be able to watch the post-screening Q&A at the conclusion of the film. These screenings are being held to promote “Heat: Director’s Definitive Edition,” the brand-new DVD and Blu-ray release of the movie set to hit the market on May 9.

And if you haven’t seen “Heat” in a few years and are fuzzy on the story? No shame, here’s the plot synopsis to remind you:

In the wake of a precision heist of an armored van, the crew of a fierce, professional thief and an obsessively driven LAPD detective are locked in deadly opposition as they vector towards each other in Mann’s dazzling, twilight vision of Los Angeles. As the stakes escalate and their lives begin to unravel, the crew initiates its most dangerous and complex heist. Taking inspiration from the late Chicago police detective Charlie Adamson — who killed the actual Neil McCauley in a shootout in 1963 — “Heat” was the culmination of years of research by Mann resulting in its depth and range of characters and choreography of action.

The event will take place on Tuesday, May 2, 2017.
