Michel Gondry has been pretty quiet on the feature film front, with seemingly not much cooking since his last effort, the low-key “Microbe & Gasoline.” However, he has kept his filmmaking chops sharp, directing a video for The White Stripes, and now jumping into the commercial world for a couple of gigs.
First up is a playful spot for FedEx, which imagines, as only Gondry can, what happens to all your parcels overnight before they are put onto a truck and arrive at your door. A simple concept, but executed with style. After this is a promo for Chobani, which sees a bunch of musicians playing Burt Bacharach’s “What the World Needs Now” — arranged by Jon Brion, who also scored “Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind” — on instruments made of fruit. Again, it’s hard to imagine anybody but Gondry dreaming this up.
Check out the spots below, but let’s hope he’s got another feature coming soon.
