New Trailer For 4K Restoration Of Robert Altman's 'A Wedding'

In our exhaustive look at Robert Altman‘s complete filmography, we declared that his 1978 effort “A Wedding” was “an insightful satire on Chicago’s upper crust.” That description may not be the most inviting, and the movie perhaps isn’t the immediate, go-to title that pops to mind when someone recommends an Altman picture, but the film is getting fresh life thanks to a new 4K restoration.

Starring Amy Stryker, Desi Arnaz Jr., Carol Burnett, Geraldine Chaplin, Mia Farrow, Lillian Gish, Viveca Lindfors, and Lauren Hutton, the film is set across a single day at, you guessed it, a wedding. The occasion is the union between society couple “Muffin” Brenner (Stryker) and Dino Sloan Corelli (Arnaz), but in true Altman fashion, the story unfolds with multiple plots as both sides of the family deal with a variety of mishaps, secrets and more.

The restored “A Wedding” will open in France on July 6th, and while there’s no word on international dates, keep your fingers crossed. And one has to wonder if “A Wedding,” with a spiffy new coat of paint, is a contender to join The Criterion Collection down the road, as I’m sure the boutique label would love to add it to their roster of Altman films.
