Patricia Clarkson & Campbell Scott Enter Politics For 'House Of Cards' Season 5

After four seasons of tireless monologues and Kevin Spacey chewing scenery, season five of the Netflix political drama “House of Cards is injecting some new blood into the proceedings. Patricia Clarkson (“Pieces of April, “Six Feet Under,” “The Scorch Trials”), one of our favorite character actresses and Oscar nominee along with Campbell Scott (“Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll,” “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”) have joined the political drama. Hopefully before the narrative exhausts itself the showrunners will find something tangibly interesting for these two talents to do.

Little has been released about the nature of their roles thus far but, this will mark Clarkson’s greatest return to television since the 1996 series “Murder One although it’s nearly impossible to believe that anyone might discount her brief but alluring cameo in the Comedy Central series “Broad City.”

Regardless this will hopefully be a chance to allow both Clarkson and Scott to shine, more of both of them is always a good thing.

This will also mark the biggest news of casting thus far under the tutelage of new showrunner Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson after original showrunner/creator Beau Willimon exited the series after apparently clashing with higher ups over notes for the show. After a fairly consistent tone for the past four seasons it will be interesting to see if the new behind the scenes control board and in front of the scenes talent make for a stronger, more engaging season of television.
