Rian Johnson Says Stay Away From 'The Last Jedi' Marketing

There are few franchises that pretty much market themselves, but “Star Wars” is one of them. While Disney and Lucasfilm orchestrate very expensive and calculated marketing campaigns for each film, the fact is that the audience — both diehard fans and even casual moviegoers — don’t really need the extra incentive to buy a ticket. There are few guarantees in life other than death, taxes, and “Star Wars” movies doing incredibly well at the box office. Disney and Lucasfilm will want you to participate in their advertising onslaught, but if you choose to keep your head down until December, two major players from “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” have got your back.

Director Rian Johnson and Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill, have both gone on the record (as much as Twitter counts for going on the record) to approve of anybody who decides they’re going to forgo the trailers and TV spots for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi,” and see it with clean eyes:
