Rihanna & Anne Hathaway Join 'Ocean's Eight'

The gang is getting together for “Ocean’s Eight,” the lady-led “extension and continuation” of the heist franchise. And the names involved are about as A-list as you can get. Sandra BullockCate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, and Mindy Kaling have all been lined up, and it looks like the rest of the crew has been found.

Deadline reports that Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, and rapper Awkwafina (who had a role in “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising“) are all boarding the movie. Yes, that leaves one person out, and perhaps it’s Elizabeth Banks, who has been previously reported, but doesn’t appear in this latest update.

Gary Ross (“The Hunger Games,” “Seabiscuit”) will be directing the movie, which is slated to start shooting in October, with his long time friend Steven Soderbergh, who helmed the original trilogy, producing. The story will apparently revolve around a heist at the Met Gala, and it will be a narrative that includes space for George Clooney‘s Danny Ocean to pop by, though that’s unlikely to happen in this film, but perhaps down the road. (And how clever it would be if there was an “Ocean’s Nine” and “Ocean’s Ten” that dovetailed right into “Ocean’s Eleven”?).

There’s no release date yet for this, but it’s probably safe to say that Warner Bros. would want it for 2017 if they can have it. And so would we.
