Rooney Mara To Play Pop Star For Brady Corbert In 'Vox Lux,' Will Shoot On 65mm

Rooney Mara is likely putting her feet up for a moment, after spending the last few weeks doing the rounds on the festival circuit for the dramas “Una,” “Lion,” and “The Secret Scripture.” And it seems she’s used that breather to read the script for Brady Corbet‘s “Vox Lux” and sign up for the lead role.

Mara will star in the next film from the director of “The Childhood Of A Leader” and writer of “The Sleepwalker,” which will tell the story of a pop star named Celeste who rises from tragedy to fame, with her journey stretching over the course of 15 years. That already sounds ambitious, but Corbet will take things one step further, shooting on 65mm, with the film screening on 70mm. Even more, Sia will be writing original songs for the film. Wow. We’ve always admired this filmmaker’s creative moves, but this sounds like he’s taking it to the next level.

Production on “Vox Lux” kicks off in February, and we’ll keep our fingers crossed we’ll also see the finished film in 2017 too. [Deadline]
