Barb Fans Will Be Disappointed By 'Stranger Things' Season 2

The refrain “Justice for Barb!” started ringing out following the end of the first season of “Stranger Things,” and again as the second season got underway. Credit Shannon Purser for giving what would ordinarily be a forgotten secondary role some texture and dimension, but sadly, Barb is gone and that, unfortunately, won’t change. Earlier this year it was revealed that, even a year after the events of last season, Nancy would still be mourning the loss her best friend as the second season gets underway. But according to producer and director Shawn Levy, that’s about as much Barb as you can expect.

“We are going to do things that fans will be disappointed in but I think they will be more satisfied by… I’ll give one example that I’ve been asked about a hundred times which is people still think Barb’s alive. Because you think you want that but you wouldn’t really want that,” he teased.

So, there will be no sudden resurrection for Barb and Levy is completely right — sometimes the very thing you think you want from a narrative, turns out to be unnecessary or excessive. As a character, Barb resonates because her time in the series was so limited, and her passing so sudden and sad.
