Did you read the recent interview in EW about “Kong: Skull Island” where a first look of the film was revealed? The narrative was size matters and the ape is big, big, big.
“From the size of the skull, you can tell that things on this island are much bigger than audiences are used to with traditional Kong lore,” director Jordan Vogt-Roberts said. “Our Kong is by far the biggest Kong that you’ve seen on screen, and that translates to a lot of different things on the island.” OK, big, we got it.
There’s also apparently no beauty and the beast story or a damsel in distress which is pretty refreshing. Instead, Brie Larson co-stars as a war photographer, “who’s seen all sorts of terrible, terrible things.” Tom Hiddleston plays an ex-British SAS tracker and in a fairly inspired move, the blockbuster is set in the 1970s.
The movie also co-stars Jason Mitchell, Corey Hawkins, Toby Kebbell, Tom Wilkinson, Thomas Mann, Terry Notary, John Goodman and John C. Reilly as the explorers who are also on this expedition with the two leads. ‘Skull Island’ lands in theaters on March 10, 2017. Watch the first trailer, seen at Comic-Con first, below.
