We may be in the sticky heat of July, but eyes are already turned to the awards season. Tomorrow, the Toronto International Film Festival will be unveiling the first titles of their slate, and it will be an interesting window into what the studios will be trotting out as their contenders. And one that is still in play for Toronto (and its competitors) is The Weinstein Company‘s "The Imitation Game," and the first two trailers are here to show you why they paid $7 million for the rights earlier this year.
Benedict Cumberbatch leads the film as Alan Turing in the true-story tale about the man credited with cracking the German Enigma code, and the race against time he and his team faced at Britain’s top-secret code-breaking centre, Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II. Turing, whose contributions and genius significantly shortened the war, saving thousands of lives, was the eventual victim of an unenlightened British establishment (read: he was persecuted for his homosexuality), but his work and legacy live on.
Co-starring Keira Knightley, and directed by Morten Tyldum, "The Imitation Game" opens on November 21st and will have its European Premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.
