For years, Disney‘s “Winnie the Pooh” has been allowing audiences to escape to the Hundred Acres Woods, a place of imagination and friendship with Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore, and many, many more. What many people may not have realized, though, is that Christopher Robin was himself based on a real person: the young child of author A. A. Milne, who used his son’s imagination as the inspiration for the books about a boy and his magical bear.
Much like 2004’s “Finding Neverland,” 20th Century Fox‘s “Goodbye Christopher Robin” promises to tell the true story behind some of our favorite childhood characters, explaining how Milne came to write a beloved classic. Directed by “Woman in Gold” filmmaker Simon Curtis and co-written by Frank Cottrell Boyce (“Millions“) and Simon Vaughan, “Goodbye Christopher Robin” will feature Domhnall Gleeson, Margot Robbie, and Kelly Macdonald as the parents and nanny of young Christopher Robin. And a fun bit of trivia? It’s also the second time that Vaughan has written a live-action story about a bear by the name of Winnie; back in 2007, Vaughan co-wrote a TV movie called “A Bear Named Winnie,” the true-life story of the circus bear that inspired Milne’s classic fable.

“Goodbye Christopher Robin” gives a rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children’s author A. A. Milne and his son Christopher Robin, whose toys inspired the magical world of Winnie the Pooh. Along with his mother Daphne, and his nanny Olive, Christopher Robin and his family are swept up in the international success of the books; the enchanting tales bringing hope and comfort to England after the First World War. But with the eyes of the world on Christopher Robin, what will the cost be to the family?
