“Full Circle”
Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh likes to remain busy, returning to direct the latest Max series, “Full Circle.” Created and written by Ed Solomon (“No Sudden Move,”) the series stars Claire Danes, Zazie Beetz, Timothy Olyphant, Dennis Quaid, and Jharrel Jerome. The six-episode limited series follows the investigation of a botched kidnapping that links together multiple characters in present-day New York. Our critic writes, “…we are looking at some vintage Soderbergh both in form and content. (Yes, there’s even some cheeky humor amidst the dour subject matter!) This is economical storytelling expressed with a clear, unfussy vision.”
Release Date: The series premieres July 13 on Max.
“Foundation”
Based on the series from author, Isaac Asimov, season two of “Foundation” returns. Set more than a century following the season one finale, tension mounts throughout the galaxy, with The Foundation in question having entered its religious phase. Created by David S. Goyer and Josh Friedman, Jared Harris, Lee Pace, Lou Llobell, and Leah Harvey all-star. Due to the dense text, the series is based on, our critic commended the first season, writing, “The results stride with a sense of purpose, pomp, and grandeur…”
Release Date: Season 2 premieres July 14 on Apple TV+.
“Justified: City Primeval”
Timothy Olyphant returns as Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens for “Justified: City Primeval” from showrunners Dave Andron and Michael Dinner. Picking up from where the original series “Justified” left off, the miniseries is inspired by the novel “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit” by author Elmore Leonard. Aunjanue Ellis, Boyd Holbrook, Adelaide Clemens, Vondie Curtis Hall, and Marin Ireland all star. Our critic praised the limited series, writing that the series is “…rich with character detail, backstory, clever plotting, and moral quandaries, with another stellar Olyphant performance holding it all together.”
