“Barbie”
Perhaps the most talked about movie of the 2023 theatrical year, “Barbie,” is poised to be the hit of the summer. Directed by Greta Gerwig and starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, the film follows the two as they venture out of Barbie Land and experience the thrills and hardships of the human world. The ensemble cast is extensive, including America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Simu Liu, Will Ferrell, and many more.

“Oppenheimer”
Christopher Nolan returns following his divisive 2020 release “Tenet,” with the historical drama “Oppenheimer.” Cillian Murphy stars as J Robert Oppenheimer throughout his life as a scientist turned man tormented by the role he played in the creation of the atomic bomb. The all-star cast included Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr., and more. Like most Nolan films, “Oppenheimer” will be a spectacle, with cinematography by Hoyte van Hoytema, who, for the first time, shot sections of the film in IMAX black-and-white analog photography.

“They Cloned Tyrone”
John Boyega, Jamie Foxx, and Teyonah Parris star in the science fiction comedy “They Cloned Tyrone” from director Juel Taylor in his feature film debut. Reportedly inspired as an homage to the Blaxploitation films of the 1970s, the script, written by Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier, was originally featured on The Black List. David Alan Grier and Kiefer Sutherland also star in the film, which follows the main three as they follow threads of government conspiracy theories.

“The Beanie Bubble”
Based on the book “The Great Beanie Baby Bubble: Mass Delusion and the Dark Side of Cute” by Zac Bissonnette, “The Beanie Bubble” follows the phenomenon of the toy and how it rose to be a hot, collectible item in the 90s. The film stars Zach Galifianakis, Elizabeth Banks, Sarah Snook, and Geraldine Viswanathan. The film marks the directorial debut of co-directors Kristin Gore (daughter of former Vice President Al Gore) and Damian Kulash (member of alternative music group OK Go.)
Release Date: In theaters for limited release July 21, before streaming July 28 via Apple TV+.
