16 Films To See In December: ‘Poor Things,’ ‘Zone Of Interest’ & More

The Zone of Interest
Jonathan Glazer makes a triumphant, unsettling return to directing following his 2013 film “Under the Skin” with “The Zone of Interest.” Christian Friedel stars as an Auschwitz commandant, with “Anatomy of a Fall” star Sandra Hüller playing his wife. The film follows the two as they try to build an idyllic life with a concentration camp as their backdrop. The film is based on the novel of the same name by Martin Amis, with “Under the Skin” composer Mica Levi reuniting with Glazer. 
Release Date: In theaters December 15 via A24.

Rebel Moon: Part 1 – A Child of Fire
Zack Snyder attempts a ‘Star Wars’ style narrative with “Rebel Moon: Part 1.” The space set action film is co-written by Snyder, Kurt Johnstad, and Shay Hatten and based on a story by Snyder with Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Michiel Huisman, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, and more starring. The film follows a woman’s efforts to stand against a corrupt, oppressive government known as the Motherworld. 
Release Date: Available to stream on December 15 via Netflix.

American Fiction
Jeffrey Wright stars in Cord Jefferson’s feature film directorial debut, “American Fiction.” Wright stars as Monk, a novelist who seeks to prove that the establishment profits from Black entertainment that relies on offensive tropes. Trace Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, and Sterling K. Brown also star in the film, which is based on the 2001 novel “Erasure” by Percival Everett
Release Date: In theaters December 15 via Amazon MGM Studios.

Maestro
Following his directorial debut with “A Star Is Born,” Bradley Cooper arrives with “Maestro” both as director and star. In this biographical drama, Cooper plays American conductor Leonard Bernstein. The story follows him as he falls in love with Costa Rican actress Felicia Montealegre, played by Carey Mulligan. Matt Bomer, Maya Hawke, and Sarah Silverman also star.
