The best bet is for HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” to repeat as the winner in this category, but don’t discount the love for “Full Frontal.” Samantha Bee’s scathing political commentary was a welcome addition during the presidential campaign last year and she’s arguably the toughest comedian on POTUS on television appearing on TV on a regular basis (and that’s saying something). Stephen Colbert and “The Late Show” could also take the crown after a breakout year (and, don’t forget, “The Colbert Report” won the last two Variety Series Emmys in 2013 and 2014 before this category was split into two).
