Got a Tip?

69th Annual Golden Globe Winners: ‘The Artist’ & ‘The Descendants’ Lead The Way

null

Okay, a few comments until our deeper analysis tomorrow. First thing, "The Descendants" — while taking two awards — dosen't jump to immediate frontrunner status. "The Help," with its civil rights theme, was never a movie that was going to connect in a big way with the HFPA so it can't be counted out yet. That said, "The Descendants" is undoubtedly going to be player at the Oscars, with Clooney looking more and more like Best Actor material. But if anything, the Globes tonight proved Harvey Weinstein is always a force to be reckoned with. His films took home six awards — including 3 for "The Artist" — more than any other studio. And he knows exactly how this game is played, so watch The Weinstein Company work hard over the next few weeks.

More to come tomorrow morning. Full list of winners below:

The first of more to come? Ludovic Bource takes Best Original Score for the first award for "The Artist" tonight. "W.E." wins Best Song for some reason! And oooh, adorable Michelle Williams takes it for "My Week With Marilyn."

What's a "War Horse"? Spielberg/Jackson joint "The Adventures Of Tintin" takes Best Animated Film. "Midnight In Paris" wins Best Screenplay, but Woody Allen is doing other things. "A Separation" continues the awards season heat with the Foreign Film win.

Octavia Spencer breaks through, wins Supporting Actress for "The Help." Martin Scorsese takes Best Director for his 3D "Hugo"! Welcome to Hollywood, Jean Dujardin! He wins Best Actor for "The Artist." YAWN, Meryl Streep wins Best Actress for "The Iron Lady." It's her eighth Golden Globe, in case you're wondering.

Looks like Harvey is the one to beat this year, as he lands his sixth award of the night — "The Artist" takes Best Picture Comedy/Musical. And here comes "The Descandants" out of nowhere, taking Best Actor for George Clooney. Everyone loves Clooney. And wow, "The Descendants" takes Best Picture.
