Paris Hilton's Litigious People Cockblock Most Screenings Of 'Paris, Not France' At Toronto Film Festival

The Paris Hilton documentary, “Paris, Not France,” was supposed to premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, but it appears her litigious handlers and reps have been pressuring TIFF and director Adria Petty to shitcan screenings (she is the daugher of rocker Tom Petty, btw).

And this appears to be what is happening. “Paris, Not France,” was supposed to play three times at TIFF ’08, but her lawyers and people, deathly afraid the film is going to portray her in a shamelss, vapid and unflattering light have threatned legal action. According to the Hollywood Reporter blog, Risky Biz, TIFF has caved and two of the screen screenings have now been cancelled (though the film and all its screenings are still up on the TIFF website).

The film apparently will now “likely be seen once there and nowhere else afterward.” Not only have the public screenings been cancelled, but so have the two press screenings that were also scheduled.

“Director Adria Petty gained close access to Paris during a tumultuous year, and her film reveals different sides of the heiress than we are used to seeing. Petty has a penchant for creating fantastic worlds out of special effects, like the magical funhouse she directed in the music video for Regina Spektor’s song “Us.” In the case of Paris, no special effects are required. Her world is a real-life fantasy,” according to TIFF.

According to Hollywoord Elswhere, “Persons who recently tried to order public tickets to the Hilton/Petty doc were sent an e-mail stating that ‘due to unforeseen circumstances, there will be only one screening of Paris, Not France [on] Tuesday, Sept. 9, 6pm, Ryerson.’ “

So it looks like the one and only shot people will have to see this apparently contentious and controversial Paris Hilton documentary is next Tuesday night. We’ll be in Toronto that evening, but frankly, we’ll have better things to do then see a doc about the most airheaded celebutante on earth. However, if you happen to be there and want to shoot us your thoughts and review, we’ll definitely post it no matter what.
