Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" subverted the usual superhero movie expectations, providing an experience rooted in character that still played into the grand myth of Batman. One of the many ways in which Nolan and co. turned things on their head was featuring the grand battle between Batman the villain Bane in the first third of the movie. And then having him lose. While they square off again later in the movie, this is in many ways the piece de resistance and it's not a surprise that getting it right took some work.
A plethora of behind-the-scenes photos and images from that underground, water-soaked battle have landed online, giving fans a pretty great look at the process to create the scene. Certainly, Christian Bale and Tom Hardy were put through the paces for a scene that both establishes Bane as a truly ferocious fighter, and puts a final stamp on Bruce Wayne's decline (before he rises again). It's definitely worth a cup of coffee and quick flip through.
"The Dark Knight Rises" arrives on Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital Download from December 3rd in the U.K. and December 4th in the U.S. [Flicks And Bits]
