Gerard Butler Is A Soccer-Playing 'Dynamo'

nullAfter the total no-show that was “Chasing Mavericks” last week, Gerard Butler hasn’t wasted any time lining up another gig. The “300” star will lead the adaptation of Andy Dougan’s “Dynamo: Defending The Honour Of Kiev.”

Based on the true story of “the landmark soccer game that took place between an occupied Ukrainian soccer team and their Nazi captors during World War II,” Butler will play Nikolai Trusevich, the inspiration and all-star goalie. The subject matter certainly seems interesting but Butler’s track record as of late, as we’ve pointed out, isn’t exactly stellar. Barring his small turn in the little seen “Coriolanus,” he has done exclusively mediocre (at best) work over the past couple of years.

While we hope that with “Chasing Mavericks” Butler has reached his career nadir, his immediate future isn’t looking any brighter with the rom-com “Playing For Keeps” (where he plays a washed up soccer player) and the low-rent “Olympus Has Fallen” coming up. Production on 'Dynamo' is set to start next year in Europe. [Deadline]
