Last time we saw James Bond in 2008's "Quantum of Solace," the very direct sequel to "Casino Royale," the character was hardened and deeply emotionally wounded; attempting to seek revenge for the death of his lover, Vesper Lynd (Eva Green). But if Bond was a little emo previously, this time he's had time to heal and isn't so hurt anymore.
"He's not so brokenhearted. He's on the mend now," Daniel Craig said in an interview with MTV about his Bond character in the upcoming film in the 007 franchise, "Skyfall." "We don't want to do an angst-ridden piece."
And as for the skeptics out there who were wary when Sam Mendes ("American Beauty") — known for his dramatic, not action, chops — was announced as the director, Craig says Mendes understands the characters and the series as much as any other filmmaker who has taken on the franchise reins. "He's one of the biggest Bond fans around," he said. "He's not out to do an angst-ridden movie, some chamber piece about people's emotions. It's a Bond movie. But we both agreed if we cast the film really well, which he did… we'd have something really rich and exciting to watch."
Featuring Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney and Bérénice Marlohe, (Craig was not in error over the quality of the cast), the 23rd film installment of the James Bond franchise hits theaters November 9.
