Got a Tip?

French Comedians Gad Elmaleh & Manu Payet Join Woody Allen’s ‘Midnight In Paris’

French comedians Gad Elmaleh and Manu Payet have joined the already extensive cast for Woody Allen’s forthcoming “Midnight In Paris” that includes Owen Wilson, Rachel McAdams, Marion Cotillard, Kathy Bates, Michael Sheen, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Tom Hiddleston , Alison Pill and Adrien Brody.

The two comedians are relatively unknown on this side of the Atlantic, however, fans of French comedies (like this writer) probably at least known Elmaleh from his roles in Francis Veber’s “The Valet” and in the Audrey Tautou comedy “Priceless.” Payet is less known outside French borders, but worked with Elmaleh previously in the film “Coco.”

As previously reported, the official synopsis describes the picture as “a romantic comedy that follows a family travelling to the city for business. The party includes a young engaged couple that has their lives transformed throughout the journey. The film celebrates a young man’s great love for Paris, and simultaneously explores the illusion people have that a life different from their own is better.” So basically, pretty standard Allen fare.

You’ll be able to get your yearly Allen fix when the director’s latest, “You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger” opens on September 22nd. “Midnight In Paris” shoots this summer in, you guessed it, Paris.
