Got a Tip?

New ‘It’s A Kind Of Funny Story’ Photos Reveal That Jeremy Davies Is Part Of The Cast

While we have seen two looks so far at the film, now we’ve got pictures of the entire cast.

While these photos might not necessarily be all that much to look at (via MTV), Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden’s third feature-length film, “It’s A Funny Kind Of Story” is a picture we have very high hopes for.

From the makers of “Half Nelson” (one of our fave pictures from 2006) and the baseball drama “Sugar,” Fleck and Boden’s adaptation of Ned Vizzini’s novel stars young Keir Gilchrist, who plays Toni Collette’s son on Showtimes’ “The United States of Tara,” as a clinically depressed teenager who checks himself into an adult psychiatric ward. The film also stars patients Zach Galifinakis, Emma Roberts (Julia’s niece), Zoë Kravitz, Jeremy Davies, doctors and psychiatrists Viola Davis, and “The Daily Show” correspondent Aasif Mandvi who also recently appeared in “The Last Airbender” and parents, Lauren Graham and Jim Gaffigan.
What has us slightly worried is the date and Focus Features, who we generally dig a lot, have been slotting a lot of curious dates this year. While a September release used to mean an early Oscar stab, that’s not really the case so much anymore (see the failed Oscar chances of “Bright Star, “The Informant” last year). So they’ve set “The American” with George Clooney for a purgatory September 3 date (the always terrible, labor day weekend dead zone) and ‘Funny Story’ once set for a prime November release date, has been bounced to an unspectacular Sept 24 date right after the Toronto Film Festival ends. But perhaps the good news is the picture will screen a few days early at the fest and get some prestige time love (but again, so did “The Informant” and “Bright Star”; Focus also gave the release shaft to “The Eagle of The Ninth” recently).

Broken Social Scene composed the score — a bounty of their pre-existing material was utilized in “Half Nelson” — so at least there’s that to look forward to as well. One of the producers on the film recently called it ” ‘One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest,’ but the tone is more similar to ‘The Breakfast Club,’ it’s funny.”
These photos appear to be the first time that Jeremy Davies’ appearance in the picture have been revealed. He’s not even listed on the movie’s IMDB page and he was never mentioned in any of the casting reports that we followed very closely (he was mentioned on a few fan site dedicated to Davies and that’s it). Maybe his role is just a cameo?
