Got a Tip?

‘Easy A’ Gets A New Poster

The upcoming comedy “Easy A,” marking the first lead comedy vehicle for rising actress Emma Stone, has been riding a pretty positive wave of buzz in advance of its September release date. The film, a modern spin on “The Scarlet Letter,” tells the story of Olive Penderghast, a high school student who decides to help out a bullied gay friend by pretending to sleep with him at a party thus boosting his rep, but inadvertently tainting hers. She becomes a pariah to the buttoned-down religious faction of students, while suddenly the object of desire of every horny male in her school.

A new poster has arrived for the film, and some preview screenings have begun in select cities and one of the Playlist team caught one a few weeks ago. While our team member didn’t love it, she had positive things to say about the recently retired Amanda Bynes in her role as the school’s resident morality cop, and described the relationship between Olive and her parents, played by Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci, as being somewhat “Juno”-esque. While our writer found the film to be a structural mess, the response in the theater was apparently quite positive which bodes well for the film’s box office success. We’ll have a more complete review closer to the film’s release date.

In the meantime, in case you missed it, here’s the trailer and a clip for the film. “Easy A” lands in theaters on September 17th.
