John Slattery pretty much walked off the set of “Mad Men” to portray Howard Stark in some of the archive footage found by Tony Stark in “Iron Man 2,” but that seems to be the extent of his participation in the Marvel universe — for now.
In the upcoming “Captain America: The First Avenger,” Brit actor Dominic Cooper has revealed he will play Robert Downey Jr.’s Dad in the WWII-era set origin story. The move makes sense; there’s no way Slattery could play thirty years younger without some kind of “Benjamin Button”-esque CGI. If you think it’s a little weird for a Brit to be playing an American, Cooper just wrapped shooting Lee Tamahori’s “The Devil’s Double” where he plays Uday Hussein. That’s right, Saddam Hussein’s son. Dude apparently has some kind of range.
“Captain America” goes in front of cameras this summer in England with Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving and Toby Jones. Joe Johnston will sit in the directors chair.
