Trying to prove that he is able carry a franchise not named “Mission: Impossible,” Tom Cruise is back starring as the titular character in “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” and we have the first official pictures to prove it.
The original film, simply titled “Jack Reacher,” was a modest hit for Cruise. Grossing $218 million worldwide off of a $60 million budget. The film is mainly remembered for using Werner Herzog as a ridiculously over-the-top villain and teaming up Cruise with writer/director Christopher McQuarrie. The duo would later team up for the blockbuster “Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation” and a relationship that feels like it’s going to last many years. With the second film, ‘Never Go Back,’ we see Ed Zwick taking over the director duties, and Cobie Smulders coming aboard as Cruise’s co-star.
People Magazine is the source of these new pictures, and as with many first looks, there’s not much context or information to be gleaned from them. We have the two stars looking on at a parade in New Orleans, along with a picture of Jack Reacher being arrested with a bit of a bloody face.
“Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” is still six months away, so it seems like these pictures are the official start of the marketing campaign. It wouldn’t be surprising if a trailer premieres soon. “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” is scheduled to be released October 21, 2016.
