Got a Tip?

‘Daredevil’ Star Charlie Cox Says He Acted Like A “Complete Idiot” In His Audition For The Han Solo Film

In the hit Netflix series, “Daredevil,” actor Charlie Cox plays a blind lawyer who moonlights as a vigilante superhero. Cox has become so talented at portraying a character without eyesight that it’s apparently affecting his chances at scoring other big roles.

During an interview with THR, Charlie Cox discussed an awkward audition he had for a secret project at Disney. “I had gone to an audition — one of those things that are super secretive and they don’t tell you, but I’m pretty sure it was for the Han Solo reboot — and halfway through it, the casting director stopped me and said, ‘Why aren’t you looking at me?’ I realized I had gotten into a habit of not making eye contact, because the only thing I had done for two years is play someone who is blind. I never got invited back, probably because they couldn’t figure out why I was acting like a complete idiot.”

Ouch. As awkward as that situation must have been, it’s hard not to be charmed by the story. Whether or not Charlie Cox is a good fit for a young Han Solo is debatable, but no one can question his commitment to playing Daredevil.

The good news is, while he won’t be our new Han Solo, everything will work out in the end for Charlie. He did end up landing a role in the off-Broadway play, “Incognito,” and he will be seen in the upcoming “Defenders” series on Netflix that combines his Daredevil character with a variety of other Marvel heroes.
