With John McClane currently sitting on the sidelines, the world’s everyman hero has turned out to be Gerard Butler‘s Mike Banning. While this year has shown audiences becoming increasingly wary of sequels, Millennium Films has looked at the numbers for “Olympus Has Fallen” ($161 million worldwide) and “London Has Fallen” ($195 million worldwide) and figured they can confidently make another entry in the franchise that has now become a trilogy.
Butler will once again kick some butt in the rather dramatically titled, “Angel Has Fallen.” Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt are writing the script for the movie that will see Banning himself become the target, but of course, the President’s life will also be in danger, with the title referring to Air Force One. So, is this just basically “Air Force One” but with Harrison Ford‘s character in a supporting role? Guess we’ll find out soon enough.
There’s no director attached just yet — Antoine Fuqua and Babak Najafi helmed the first two pictures — but the film will be ready for buyers to snap up at the American Film Market next month, which I presume it’ll sell quite handily given the success of ‘Olympus’ and ‘London.’ Filming will get underway next year.
