Here’s a fun fact: “La La Land” has already outgrossed both “Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice” and “Suicide Squad” in South Korea. That’s right, superheroes got nothing on Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. Indeed, the musical has been a phenomenon, sweeping into frontrunner Oscar status during the awards race and winning the hearts of moviegoers, all while earning strong box office receipts. And the movie is still rolling out around the globe, with the U.K. getting to ready to swoon next.
A new trailer is powered by another song from the movie, John Legend‘s “Start A Fire.” The musician/actor plays the more successful version of Ryan Gosling’s stubborn jazz musician, who fears selling out and playing to a more contemporary audience, rather than pursue his more traditional brand of music. And it’s just one of the conflicts that stir beneath the glossy musical surface of the heart-rending picture.
And if that’s not enough, you can dive into an hour’s worth of podcast talks with director Damien Chazelle about the movie, including one hosted by Jon Favreau.
“La La Land” is now playing, and opens in the U.K. on January 12th.
