Got a Tip?

Ryan Coogler & Michael B. Jordan Reteam For ‘Wrong Answer’

If Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan are this generation’s version of Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro, that’s just fine by me. The director and actor have already teamed up on a pair of great films, “Fruitvale Station” and “Creed,” and have worked together, even if a bit less intensely, on Marvel‘s upcoming “Black Panther.” Now, they’ve got another project cooking that will see their talents spinning an intriguing true story drama.

Deadline reports that Coogler and Jordan are pairing up for “Wrong Answer.” Based on the a 2014 The New Yorker article by Rachel Aviv, the film will follow Damany Lewis, a math teacher at Parks Middle School, who cheats his way around the flawed standardized test scores implemented by this No Child Left Behind program, in order to give his underprivileged students better opportunities, and also help keep the school from being closed.

It’s material that touches on both race and class, which makes it all the more exciting that celebrated writer Ta-Nehisi Coates (“The Beautiful Struggle,” “Between The World And Me“) will be penning the screenplay. New Regency is financing the film, which is being produced by Plan B, and while there’s no word yet on when it might get in front of cameras, here’s hoping it’s at the top of the priority list for everyone involved.
