Got a Tip?

Apple To Develop New Series Based On Terry Gilliam’s 1980 Film ‘Time Bandits’

While we’re not sure what Terry Gilliam has up his sleeve next, we do know that there’s some more Gilliam goodness in our future. According to Deadline, Apple is looking to adapt the director’s 1980 fantasy film “Time Bandits” into a television series.

No word on a release date or a cast, but this is still news to celebrate, nonetheless. “Time Bandits” tells the story of a young boy who comes across six dwarves emerging from his closet. As if that wasn’t crazy enough, the dwarves tell the boy that they have a map of all the tears in the fabric of Space and Time. This allows the group to go through various points in history in order to steal riches. As you can tell from the premise, “Time Bandits” is a film that lends itself greatly to becoming a fun, fantasy TV series.

Unfortunately, Gilliam’s role on the series seems to be limited. The report states that he’ll be a “non-writing executive producer” on the show. That means that it’s likely that Gilliam won’t be in full control of his property and is probably fine with signing off on the finished product. That being said, it’ll be nice to have a new series with Gilliam’s fingerprints all over it in the future.

“Time Bandits” is one of what seems like 100 huge series coming to Apple in the next couple years. While the tech company has yet to release one of their original series, we’re expecting big things. Apple has signed deals with David Goyer, Francis Lawrence, Steven Spielberg, Kumail Nanjiani and Emily V. Gordon, as well as Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Like their streaming competition, it appears that Apple is sparing no expense and developing ways to make its content compete with Amazon, Netflix, and Hulu.

Now, we can add Terry Gilliam’s name to the mix. And that’s always a good thing.
