Olivia Thirlby (“Juno,” “The Wackness”) is set to take her first step into a leading role in a big budget film, joining the Timur Bekmambetov alien invasion flick, “The Darkest Hour.”
Directed by Chris Gorak (“Right At Your Door”) and written by Gorak and Josh Zetumer (a Black List favorite who recently penned a script for the now lifeless “Bourne 4”) the film “is set in Moscow and follows a group of Americans traveling in the city when an alien invasion occurs. Thirlby plays a trust fund girl trying to survive the attack who teams up with others to try to defeat the invaders.”
The film will be shot this summer in Moscow, utilizing Bekmambetov’s facilities and effects teams. Gorak certainly has a distinctive eye, with Art Director credits under his belt for such films as “Fight Club” and “Minority Report.” Visually, this will definitely be one to watch though we do hope there is a fresh spin on the premise.
Summit will be releasing the film domestically, while Fox will handle the rest of the world. It’s safe bet that this will be a 2011 release.
