Nick Urata, a member of the band DeVotchKa, probably best known to film audiences for providing the jaunty score to “Little Miss Sunshine,” has scored the upcoming Jim Carrey & Ewan McGregor oddball gay romantic comedy, “I Love You Phillip Morris.”
As Urata explains, he fell into his latest gig almost by accident, “They were using a DeVotchKa song when they were cutting the movie, and all the composers they originally wanted weren’t available. That’s when they let me do it.” While Urata tried his best to do a traditional score, the filmmakers encouraged him to keep his own voice, “I tried to write an original score, but the directors kept encouraging me to use my own style. They are extremely funny and irreverent, so they wanted to make a unique film — which they did.”
The soundtrack already has a release in Europe, and is available as an import for stateside fans. As for the film, its currently slated for a limited release on April 30th. Full details on the album are below.
