Jim Carrey’s New ‘Memoir’ Portrays Gwyneth Paltrow As A “Viking Berserker That Rejoices In Combat”

Jim Carrey recently released the closest thing he has ever done to an autobiography, the novel titled “Memoirs and Misinformation.” And as you might expect from someone as wildly funny and strange as Carrey, his version of a memoir is anything but normal. In fact, as is detailed in a new interview with USA Today, “Memoirs and Misinformation” leans less on the memoir and way more on the misinformation. But it makes for one hell of a read.

For the actor, there was no interest in actually writing a real, factual autobiography. As you might expect from the eccentric comedian, he had other plans in mind.

“Someone else can do that someday,” Carrey said. “But we’re on a creative journey. We want to create characters, and we want to have fun with personalities.”

And boy, does he have fun!

Throughout his book, he uses reality and mixes it with some seriously strange fiction. Take Gwyneth Paltrow’s portrayal in the book, for example. As she prepares for the apocalypse (again, this book is out there), Paltrow’s character just hopes that the world can experience “so much joy your only concern is laugh lines, maybe a little neck work.”

According to Carrey’s co-author, Dana Vachon, the humor of that line comes from reality and the absurdity.

“That’s a funny line because it’s actually Gwyneth,” Vachon said. “You’re actually looking at the Goop proprietor there, but everything around that is the hard opposite, which is a Viking berserker who rejoices in combat.”

Carrey added, “She seems so proper that it’s just like Jimmy Stewart saying dirty words, you know? There’s gotta be a little mercenary in her, you know what I mean? If she’s gonna be the CEO of a big company.”

Another celeb that gets the fantastical reality treatment is Nicolas Cage. In the novel, the actor actually has a role that doesn’t seem too far out of the realm of possibility. He’s described by USA Today as “a man with an affinity for semi-naked jiujitsu and given to prophetic visions of saber-toothed tigers.” Yeah, that checks out.

Needless to say, Jim Carrey has crafted one of the most unique memoirs that you’ll likely ever read. And even if hardly any of it is actual fact, at least you’ll read “Memoirs and Misinformation” and get a laugh.
