Though it’s getting harder than ever to measure ratings in the streaming era, that doesn’t stop rating trackers like Nielsen from trying. For the first time since Nielsen launched a weekly streaming top 10 list late this summer, Netflix has some competition in the form of Amazon‘s “The Boys.”

According to Nielsen (via Forbes), “The Boys” came in at number three of the top 10 streaming shows this week, with 891 million minutes watched. The number one show, “Cobra Kai,” had 2.17 billion minutes watched this week. It’s worth noting, however, that “Cobra Kai” is not technically a Netflix Original, or at least not yet. The streaming giant acquired the show after its initial run on YouTube, and won’t have new and original episodes available until next year.
The same can be said of most of the Netflix titles on the top 10 list, really. At number two is “Lucifer,” which Netflix also acquired before starting to produce new episodes, while “The Office,” “Criminal Minds,” “The Legend of Korra,” “Shameless,” and “Grey’s Anatomy” are all licensed shows. The only true and entirely original Netflix show on the list is “Away,” the Hilary Swank astronaut drama.
Then there’s “The Boys.” According to Amazon, the show had nearly doubled the viewership for the first season of the show. This season is also getting a better critical response, in part thanks to its timelier focus on politics and white supremacy.
Indeed, Amazon seems confident enough in their superhero franchise that it already greenlit an animated spin-off set in college.
