‘Falcon & Winter Soldier’ Clips: Sam & Bucky Talk Wizards, Doctor Strange, Gandalf & More

If “WandaVision” was a bold step for Marvel Studios, playing with storytelling structure and expanding the horizons for what the superhero storytelling factory can do, then “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” is the cozy, familliar blanket that you just want to cuddle up with and not worry about Kevin Feige and Co. taking huge risks. As seen in the new clips from the upcoming Disney+ series, the show has familiar characters and all the quippy banter that you’ve come to expect from your superhero stories.

“The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” follows the story of Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), better known as Falcon, as he teams up with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), better known as Winter Soldier, to stop bad guys and figure out what it takes to take over the role of Captain America after Steve Rogers gave up the shield. (It’s true, especially when you see what The Playlist’s own Rodrigo Perez had to say about the one episode that he was able to watch already…the lucky bastard.) But you wouldn’t really know any of that from the two clips that Marvel recently shared. Those clips showcase that this six-episode action series is really built on the chemistry of the leads and the bickering that they have come to embrace.

In one clip, you see that the two heroes have not instantly become BFFs after Steve gave up the shield. Instead, they still fight back and forth, trading verbal barbs, and generally getting on each other’s nerves. And in a second clip, their banter involves “the big three,” which Falcon explains includes “androids, aliens, and wizards.” Apparently, according to the hero’s logic, those are the three categories of individuals they encounter. And yes, Doctor Strange fits under the “wizards” designation, just without the hat.
