Liam Hemsworth Will Lead Chuck Russell's 'Arabian Nights'

It’s about time a new fraternal acting clan appeared on the scene – they normally turn out to be fairly entertaining, but the Culkins and the Arquettes have mostly disappeared entirely, while the Baldwins, Alec aside, are either stuck on TV, or have become nutjob right-wing preachers. Fortunately, Australian actor Chris Hemsworth, currently filming the title role in Kenneth Branagh’s Marvel adaptation “Thor,” has a pair of actor siblings, who look to be following his path. Oldest brother Luke has so far only appeared in Australian TV, and will henceforth be known as the Andrew Wilson of the trio, but youngest brother Liam came close to playing Thor himself, and is on the brink of breaking through on his own.

The 20-year-old actor plays Miley Cyrus’ love interest in “The Last Song”, and appeared in last year’s Nicolas Cage thriller “Knowing.” He’s now taking on his own action lead, toplining a new version of “Arabian Nights” directed by Chuck Russell, helmer of “The Mask” and “The Scorpion King.”

The plot for the project follows a young soldier who teams up with Sinbad, Ali Baba and the genie from the magic lamp to rescue the princess Sheherazade after a coup in their home country. In a shocking development, the project will be released in 3D after the over-performance of the spectacularly awful “Alice in Wonderland” at the box office this weekend. The project’s being funded by Inferno (Lisa Cholodenko’s upcoming “The Kids Are Alright”), and will start filming at the end of the summer.
