Ezra Miller, the lead star of the upcoming DC Comics tentpole “The Flash,” is back in the news for all the wrong reasons as the actor has been arrested for the second time in Hawaii. Miller had been originally arrested on March 28 for “disorderly conduct and harassment” in Hilo after an altercation at a bar, and a video of Miller choking a woman in Iceland was making the rounds online in 2020. Adding this new incident indicates a troubling pattern of aggression.
The Hawaii Police Department announced that Miller has been arrested for “second-degree assault,” a much more serious charge than his previous incident, after allegedly throwing a chair at a woman causing a laceration on her forehead at a private residence in Pāhoa.
The official media release connected to the local police report reads as follows:
Shortly after 1 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, a 29-year-old visitor from Vermont was arrested for second-degree assault after an incident at a residence in Pāhoa.
At 1:10 a.m., Puna patrol officers responded to a report of an assault that occurred at a get-together at a private residence in the Leilani Estates subdivision in lower Puna.
During the course of their investigation, police determined that the individual, later identified as Ezra Miller, became irate after being asked to leave and reportedly threw a chair, striking a 26-year-old female on the forehead, resulting in an approximate half-inch cut.
The female victim refused treatment for her injury.
Miller, who identifies as they/them, was subsequently arrested at 1:30 a.m. for Assault in the second degree after being located on the roadway during a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 130 and Kukula Street in Kea‘au.
After conferring with the County Prosecutor’s Office, at 4:05 a.m. on Tuesday morning Miller was released pending further investigation. This is an active investigation.
Variety adds that Hawaii Police Assistant Chief Kenneth Quiocho has stated that Miller had been the source of ten police calls in Hilo since March 7. A Hawaiian couple had also filed a restraining order against Miller after the arrest in Hilo, only for them to drop it by April 13 for undetermined reasons.
Warner Bros. Pictures has reportedly already considered “hitting pause” with Miller after the previous arrest from late last month, but it remains to be seen how this will impact “The Flash” and if the studio will attempt to introduce another actor at the end of that film, given it’s Multiverse angle. The film doesn’t come out until summer 2023, so WB certainly has time to weigh their options. A decision about Miller’s participation in future “Fantastic Beasts” installments certainly feels less complicated given the actor has a much smaller part in those films and the series is already in doubt thanks to a middling box office performance from the latest film,
